Shared web hosting refers to the fact that multiple independent customer web sites can be hosted on one shared web server. The servers that ISOMEDIA uses for shared web hosting are capable of serving many hundreds of individual web sites, without degrading the performance of any of the sites. Most web sites are best served with this economical method of hosting. Domain names are the on-line addresses of companies, and organizations on the Internet. For example, ISOMEDIA.COM is the domain name for ISOMEDIA, Inc. A domain name is not the same as a web address; a web address can optionally include a server name at the beginning of the domain name. For example, isomedia.com is a domain name, but www.isomedia.com is the web server for ISOMEDIA, Inc. Yes. Whether you register your domain name directly with ISOMEDIA or with another registrar like Network Solutions, you can always take your domain name with you when you change service providers. ISOMEDIA shared hosting can work with any domain name that is internationally accredited with ICANN. You can request new domains either through your sales representative, or by contacting technical support. New domains are usually available within 24-48 hours of ordering. Domain transfers may take up to one week to coordinate with the previous service provider. ISOMEDIA shared hosting does not directly support pointing domains to subdirectories. You will receive an email after signup which includes details for modifying your domain registration information to work with ISOMEDIA's DNS servers. In most cases it does not matter whether your site is hosted on Windows or Linux. In fact, most of the sites hosted on the Internet today, are hosted on Linux servers. All FTP and incoming/outgoing e-mail traffic counts against your account's total bandwidth. Average web pages typically range from 10 Kilobytes to 100 Kilobytes in size, depending upon how many graphical images are in the page. You can estimate how much bandwidth you will use by multiplying the size of your web pages and graphics by the number of times your site will be accessed in a month. For example, if your web pages have an average size of 50 Kilobytes including graphics and you get 1000 page views per day, that would equate to 1.5 Gigabytes of transfer per month. You will receive an automatic e-mail warning you that you have exceeded your contracted bandwidth with the overage amount specified. Overage charges will show up on your following bill at the rate associated with your hosting plan. At anytime you can see how much bandwidth your account has used by logging into your Site Administrator control panel. All ISOMEDIA shared hosting plans come with ENSIM control panel. Most companies that offer unlimited bandwidth simply mean that they won't tell you what your real bandwidth limit is. They typically cancel the accounts of anyone who goes over their arbitrary limit without warning. |
