SHACK Discussion Group / Microsoft® Active Server Pages(ASP) Component Software

The Discussion Group ActiveX DLL was created to combine the functionality of News Groups and Bulletin Board Software in a Browser/HTML environment. By doing so, no special configuration of software is necessary and any modern Browser should be able to view the application.
The user has the potential within the same visit of participating within the discussion group as either a visitor ;
  • -researching for help,
  • -browsing for interesting subjects of discussion or news,
  • -posting questions,
  • -posting answers to already posted questions from other group members
  • -or a visitor looking to see if their previous questions got answered.
    The logic of the Discussion Group Threadability lends itself for an easy open/anonymous environment where ideas and help can be exchanged within a community of common interest.

    BROWSING THE DISCUSSION GROUPS
    1. Select the Main Discussion Group to unfold from the left frame. On the right/middle frame of your browser you will see a list of all the messages posted to the particular Main Discussion Group selected.
    2. You originally only will see two different types of icons;
  •     Message Icon
  •     Message Thread

    • MESSAGES AND MESSAGE THREADS
    1.    A message thread was originally a message  .  The difference is that messages where posted against it's subject. These messages within the now folder, can either be questions, answers, comments or more folder (message threads).
  • Folders can be collapsed    once they are open to facilitate further navigation of the Discussion Group. They can later be expanded again if needed.
    • 2.    All messages have the potential of becoming Message Threads(folders). For example, if you post a question to the group, if somebody answers your question, your message will automatically become a folder from there on. Furthermore, the answer posted to your question could generate more questions (or disagreements) that would be posted within "your folder" or message thread that you originated.
  • To Post a message select the ToGroup   icon directly to the right of the message header.

    •   RELOAD ICON
    1. Discussion Groups are continuously been used so while you where browsing a folder several messages could have been posted to it. Reloading will not happen automatically, you will have to do it manually.
    2. Select the Reload   icon to view new messages for each thread. The entire Discussion Group with all it's threads/folders will no be reloaded automatically, only a specific thread at a time can be Reloaded.

      TOGROUP ICON
    1. You must create a temporary user name to post to the Discussion Group. This name can only be 8 characters long.
    2. The User name you select can be the same or different every time you visit the Discussion Group.
    3. You can Post a message to any Folder or Message within the Discussion Group by clicking on it's corresponding ToGroup   Icon.

      ZOOM ICON
    1. The list frame only shows 175 characters at a time for each message. To view the full message, select the ZOOM    Icon corresponding to the particular message to view the subject entirely.

    BOOKMARKING MESSAGE THREADS
    1. You may want to forward a bookmark to a Discussion Group folder.
    2. Only folders can be bookmarked not messages. To bookmark right mouse click on the desired message icon and select;
