Classes in the Transitional Education Department are designed to serve the special needs of students with limited proficiency in English whose first language is not English. The primary goal of the department is to facilitate student progress towards meeting graduation requirements while learning English. Students qualify for departmental classes through language assessment by the Office of Student Assignment, through referral from mainstream teachers, or through the recommendation of teachers within the department. Although courses in the department are sequential, qualified students may transfer into a partial ot total schedule of mainstream classes before completing the departmental sequence. Courses marked with an asterisk (*) satisfy graduation requirements.
