Mystery Science Theater News

They're BACK! In case you have not heard, I'll bring you up to date with a quick timeline...

1990 - The check for the very first season of MST 3K on The Comedy Channel is cut. The world will never be the same. Joel Hodgson, Josh Weinstein, Trace Beaulieu and Jim Mallon put on their now famous little puppet show.

1991 - Josh Weinstein leaves the show before the start of the second season to pursue a career in writing. Kevin Murphy takes his place as Tom Servo's voice and Frank Coniff replaces Josh as Dr. Forrester's sidekick.

1994 - Joel Hodgson leaves the show in the middle of season 5 in order to pursue other ideas for shows. Head writer Mike Nelson takes over as the show's host.

1995 - Best Brains make a movie! Mystery Science Theater: The Movie to be released in may of '96. It has a ridiculously limited release but still manages to make the most money per screen than any other movie released as MSTies flock from reportedly as much as 400 miles away to see the movie. The movie is released on Home Video as of Oct 96 and is available (maybe) at your local Blockbuster store.

Frank leaves the show and Mary Jo Pehl steps in a Dr. F's mom.

1996 - Comedy Central cancels MST 3K! They order only 6 shows for the 7th season and choose not to buy any more shows after that. Doug Herzog, the president of Comedy Central got many letters from angry fans of the show who had very strong feelings about him and his decision, but did not change his mind.

And now, the great news! After a major letter writing campaign by fans to other networks to pick up the show, the Sci-Fi channel has picked it up!

Unfortunately Trace Beaulieu will not be returning in the new season on the Sci-Fi channel, but Crow will, he will now be voiced by occasional writer, now full time voice, Bill Corbet. We will all have to wait and see what happens.
