Assault Shuttle
The Assault shuttle is used to accomodate troops, especially Zero-G Stormtroopers. It is used for capturing rebel capital ships, as it has two of it's own ion cannons. The Assault Shuttle is one of the first shuttles to be equipped with a tractor beam, which idea was taken from Zaarin's TIE Defender research facility when it was re-captured. It's shields are significantly stronger than the escort shuttle and reaches the same sublight speed as an X-wing fighter. The Assault shuttle has the quad laser configuration, like the TIE Defender and is armed with dual concussion missile launchers. Unlike the Escort shuttle, this model lacks the rear mounted turbolaser turret, as it is it's only weakness. It carries a crew of four and ten passengers.  [top]

A-Wing
The A-Wing is a very small starfighter that was designed by General Jan Dodonna and engineer Walex Blissex. The idea behind the A-Wing was not to create a ship with a lot of firepower, but one that could use blinding speed to outperform its opponents. At the time of the Battle of Endor, the A-Wing was the fastest ship at sublight in the galaxy.
Although not used extensively by the New Republic, the A-Wing is used as its main interceptor. The ship is very difficult to fly becuase the high speeds create great stresses against the hull. Not only do the weapons, engine, and other systems require constant maintainence, but the ship is so small, the parts are all packed in very close together. This makes it difficult to reach some areas during repair, and also means that a critical hit could take
A-Wing
out several major systems or even incinerate the entire ship. For this reason, often the pilot's only weapon against the enemy is the ship's blistering speed. The A-Wing is propelled by two Novaldex J-77 "Event Horizon" engines, and for maneuvering, uses the centered thruster-control jets and the J-77's ability to adjust the thrust-vector.
The A-Wing carries two wing-mounted blaster cannons (each with their own seperate generator) which can angle up and down sixty degrees; and some are modified to be able to shoot straight back. Since this armament is sometimes insufficient, some A-Wings have dual concussion-missile launchers with 3 missiles each. The concussion missiles have a greater range and are far more destructive than the laser cannons.
Since the A-Wing cannot take a lot of damage, it uses a unique sensor and communication-jamming device. This is only useful against fighters and other small ships, and can sometimes confuse the sensors of the enemy craft and allow the A-Wing to attack and get away before the enemy knows they are there.
The A-Wing was not intended to be a major fighter in the Rebel Alliance's fleet, as it was designed to be a escort for merchant ships. Rebel tacticians saw that the A-Wing was very successful, and found it was better in hit and fade attacks against Imperial vessels, where it could attack and get out before starfighters could be scrambled. Often, slower starfighters would draw the TIEs away from an Imperial transport or capital ship, and then the A-Wings would cut the undefended ship to ribbons.  [top]

AT-AT
Among all of the Empire's ground combat vehicles, the All-Terrain Armored Transport is very easily one of the most powerful. Standing 20 meters tall and 15 meters long, the AT-AT towers above all of its targets and greatly lowers Rebel morale when it is sighted. The giant machine is built like a monster, with four long legs and a
AT-AT
massive rectangular body which holds troops or cargo. The head of the AT-AT is also intimidating, sporting multiple cannons.
The Empire already had many different types of repulsorlift vehicles in its arsenal, but these drive systems were sometimes unreliable, and often malfunctioned because of a planet's gravity fluctuations or odd atmospheric effects. For this reason, the Empire decided it needed a non-repulsorlift heavy ground-assault vehicle that could be used in any terrain in any atmospheric conditions. Imperial designers decided to use the ancient "walker" design, which had never before been applied on such a large and heavy vehicle.
The AT-AT, when finished, surpassed all expectations of Imperial military commanders. The armor plating on its sides were virtually impervious to anything but heavy artillery attacks, and its blasters could take out Rebel vehicles and emplacements quickly. The AT-AT was so effective, the Empire made it the main weapon in many heavy ground assaults.
The head of the AT-AT is where the cockpit is located. This is where the commander, pilot, and gunner sit during battle. The head can rotate 90 degrees left or right and rotate up or down 30 degrees. On the underside of the head, there are two heavy laser cannons, and on the side, there are two medium blasters. These weapons can turn independently so that more than one target can be fired upon at once.
The large body section is plated with very thick armor, and is hollowed inside to carry various loads. Up to 40 troops and 5 speeder bikes will fit inside at one time, but if it is completely empty 2 AT-ST walkers can go in it. During battle, the AT-AT can kneel down to 3 meters above the surface and lower a ramp so that the troops or walkers inside can be instantly placed onto the battlefield.
A huge drive motor on the underneath side of the main body section can move the AT-AT at speeds up to 60 kilometers per hour, but this is only possible under good conditions.  [top]

AT-PT
The AT-PT (All-Terrain Personal Transport) was, in its initial stages, simply a test model to determine the effectiveness of a vehicle that implemented the "walker" design. The AT-PT turned out to be a good vehicle. The basic idea of the craft was to simply turn a single infantryman into a powerful weapon on the battlefield. The AT-PT project was cancelled realtively early, but it set the standard for walker vehicles.
The idea was for the Republic to use the AT-PT against enemy infantry or light attack vehicles. It was well-suited for the job: it could travel in jungle, mountainous terrain, shallow water, was small enough to maneuver in urban areas, and had a top speed of 60 kilometers per hour on open, flat terrain. The drive system could handle 45 degree inclines. Although it was slower and less maneuverable than a repulsorlift craft, it could handle much more irregular terrain.
The system consisted of two legs which were attached to the side of a "head," which contained the cockpit. The cockpit was designed for one driver, but could carry two in emergency situations. The legs were unique in that they had two joints: a hip-drive joint and a knee joint. With this setup, it could stand very tall for faster speeds and a better view, or crouch down to lower the chances of being sighted. The command pod (the head) was plated with heavy armor which made it nearly invincible against small arms fire. It was armed with two blaster cannons and a single concussion-grenade launcher.
Not very many AT-PTs were manufactured, and most of the ones that were made were loaded onto the Dreadnaughts that were part of the Katana fleet. This fleet disappeared for quite some time, and then was rediscovered by Grand Admiral Thrawn, so the whereabouts of the recovered AT-PTs were are still unknown to the Alliance.  [top]

AT-ST
The AT-ST is an effective walker that is used often by the Empire for light scouting missions, perimeter defense, and support for troops and AT-ATs. These walkers don't rely on big guns and thick armor like the AT-AT, but rather use their speed and maneuverability to evade enemy fire. They are extremely effective
AT-ST
fighters against infantry and light repulsor craft, and also are intimidating in battle, standing at 8.6 meters tall.
The AT-ST consists of two long legs which are attached to a drive motor underneath the command cabin. The command cabin seats the pilot and a gunner, which are the only crew needed. The head, or command cabin (call it what you like) is protected by heavy armor, but it is nowhere near the amount of protection that an AT-AT has.
The head of the AT-ST is blistering with weapons. In the "chin" there are twin fire-linked blaster cannons, on the port side of the head there are another pair of blasters, and on the starboard side of the head there is a concussion grenade launcher. The weapons can turn independently, and the entire head section can rotate to fire in any direction. The drive system is a single engine located underneath the head. This area also carries a gyro system that will correct the "stance" of the AT-ST if it becomes unbalanced or steps on unstable terrain. A big disadvantage is that the drive motor is completely exposed to enemy fire.
Several variants of the AT-ST have been produced, the most notable one being the AT-ST/A, which carries a single heavy blaster, stronger legs, and a more advanced gyro system. They are also over 10 meters tall, standing over 1 1/2 meters taller than the regular AT-ST.  [top]

Blaster
Blasters are the main weapons used throughout the galaxy. Blasters deliver bolts of light energy. They can be set from STUN to KILL.  [top]

B-Wing
The B-Wing was an extremely successful heavy attack starfighter that was designed to be able to deliver powerful weapons against a ship and also be able to take plenty of damage. It had as much firepower than some Imperial capital ships, and therefore provided the Rebel Alliance (which, at the time didn't exactly have funds to spare) with a ship that was very effective for a relatively low cost.
Admiral Ackbar (who was a Commander at the time) designed the B-Wing, with the help of some engineers from the Verpine Slayn and Korpil companies. Later the group worked together to build an improved B-Wing that carried two passengers (called the B-Wing/E), but this ship was not as widely accepted as the normal B-Wing fighter.
The B-Wing is a long, flat wing with a cylindrical-shaped cockpit at one end. Two small, folding airfoils extend from roughly the middle, making a "T" shape when they are extended (so, why is it called a B-Wing? I DON'T KNOW!). The fighter also has a very unique gyro-stabilization system that allows the main wing (essentially the entire ship) to rotates around the cockpit, while the cockpit remains stable, significantly reducing the amount of stress put on the pilot during complex maneuvers. Unfortunately, the complex system is
B-Wing
susceptible to malfunctioning, and often quits working altogether. This leaves the wing in the same position, and makes it impossible for the pilot to do anything close to a sharp turn. However, despite the fact that it is very difficult to fly, the few pilots that are qualified to fly B-Wings grow very attached to the ships. Most pilots either supervise the maintainence of their ships or even do it themselves.
In the standard configuration, B-Wings have an ion cannon in each airfoil, and a third ion cannon at the base of the main wing. Also at the end of the main wing are a laser cannon and a single proton torpedo launcher. Just between the engine and the cockpit is another proton torpedo launcher, and a twin auto-blaster built in the front nose of the cockpit. The B-Wing also carries an advanced targeting computer that links the performance of the ion cannons and proton torpedoes, so that a lot of damage can be done against a single target quickly. There is also a low-power laser used for targeting; this laser will give the B-Wing pilot perfect directional, speed, and vector information, it also tells the enemy ship exactly where the B-Wing is.
All of these weapons were designed to be very customizable, and many pilots modify their ships weapons to suit their piloting style. A very common modification to the B-Wing's weapons is to remove the two auto-blasters and replace them with the three ion cannons, and then place laser cannons at the end of each airfoil and at the base of the main wing.
A single Quadex Kyromaster engine with four individually adjusted thrust nozzles powers the B-Wing, which is powered by a Vinop 02 K ionization reactor and four Slayn & Korpil J5-5g7 power convertors. There are also four cooling plates that dissipate the large amount of heat which comes from these powerful engines. It has a slow sublight speed compared to other Rebel Starfighters, and a Class Two hyperdrive; twice as slow as the X-Wing and A-Wing. It also has no navigation computers and only contains two sets of jump coordinates.  [top]

Carrack Cruiser
Carrack Cruisers is starship of 350 meters in length. It features ten heavy turbolasers and can last for one year without calling to port.  [top]

Chariot LAV
The Uulshos Light Assault Vehicle (LAV) QH-7 Chariot is a low-cost command speeder that is used extensively by the Empire. This modified speeder is about 12 meters long, and travels at a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour. It can travel as high as eight meters off of the ground.
The Chariot is usually deployed at the rear of an assault and sometimes carries officers on board to command the operation. The Chariot is almost never deployed alone; it is usually sent out with repulsor craft and artillery units, and sometimes accompanies scouting groups. In the front is the cockpit with an armored canopy, and the back is mainly filled with different arrays of countermeasures devices to protect against communications disruption tactics. It also carries a high-tech communication transmissions scrambler to make it very difficult for enemies to intercept their signals.
The Chariot is not designed for battle, as it has very thin armor and a single blaster cannon that retracts from the bottom of the ship. If attacked, the Chariot ususally depends on other ships within the convoy for protection.
The Chariot requires only three crew members (pilot, commander, gunner), plus four droids to control the communications transmissions. This LAV also carries many sophisticated battle-assistance programs, holographic battle displays, and other computers to give the commander and crew the most detailed intelligence information possible. With this information, the officers on board can coordinate more than a dozen combat units.
When Grand Admiral Thrawn was in command, he upgraded many of the Chariots, giving them a more powerful laser cannon that could turn in all directions.  [top]

Corellian Corvette
The Corellian Corvette is one of the most versatile spacecraft in use
Corellian Corvette
today, covering a wide range of uses from troop transport to cargo ship to passenger carrier. It is one of the fastest capital ships ever built. Unlike most vessels, which are highly specialized in function, the corvette is so easily converted to varying tasks that it is found throughout the galaxy. It is 150 meters in length and carries a crew of 46-165. It is armed with six dual turbolasers.  [top]

Death Stars
Even with his enormous Imperial space fleet in place. Palpatine felt that there was a certain lack of "respect" (and fear) for his rule among the worlds of the former Republic. Wanting
Deathstar I
to remedy the situation, he called upon the brightest of his spacecraft designers and demanded a vessel more magnificent and more powerful than any that had ever been in space before. His single demand was that the new battle fortress have the ability to destroy an entire planet with one quick, massive stroke, against which there could
Deathstar II
be no planetary defense.
The first battle station was the size of a small moon, 120,000 meters in diameter. It was comprised of 84 levels, with each level being comprised of 357 sublevels. It was equipped with a superlaser that could destroy an entire planet as well as tens of thousands of lasers, turbolasers, and ion cannons.. Early in the Civil War it destroyed the beautiful planet of Alderaan, the adopted home world of Princess Leia. During the Battle of Yavin that followed, a group of Rebel starfighters attacked the Death Star. Luke Skywalker delivered the decisive proton torpedoes that exploded the battle station. After the Battle of Yavin, the Emperor ordered the building of a bigger and more powerful Death Star. While the Second Death Star was being built, it was protected by a force field generated from this station on the forest moon of Endor. During the Battle of Endor, Millinium Falcon, flown by Lando Calrissian and Nien Nunb was able to break into the superstracture of the Second Death Star and blow it up by melting its power core.  [top]

Desert Skiff
Desert Skiffs are fairly common repulsorlift vehicles and are seen in different places all across the galaxy. Jabba the Hutt used them extensively for moving passengers and cargo to and from his sail barge, and were sometimes used in raids and small battles. Although the craft are not very large, they can carry almost as much
Desert Skiff
cargo as will fit on the deck: up to 100 tons of cargo can be loaded on board. Under good conditions, most skiffs can travel at 250 kilometers per hour and climb to altitudes of 50 meters.
In most cases, Desert Skiffs are simple vehicles. They are open on top, which provides better visibility. A single repulsorlift engine moves the vehicle forward and steering vanes on either side of the skiff can maneuver it left or right. Labor droids sometimes pilot desert skiffs since they are so basic.
Desert Skiffs have no armor, and are not very maneuverable. The pilot is totally exposed to enemy fire, as is the deck, engine, and steering vanes. They are well-suited for transporting cargo, however, as they have magnetic lifters to pull large cargo modules on deck, and magnetic holders and straps to keep the cargo in place at high speeds. There is also plenty of space on the deck for the skiffs to be used as mass-transit vehicles: up to 16 passenger seats will fit. Jabba the Hutt used the skiffs for throwing his victims into the mouth of the Sarlaac Pit. To add to the enjoyment of these executions, he had retractable gangplanks installed into his Desert Skiffs.  [top]

Dreadnought
Dreadnoughts are old-style heavy cruisers. They are 600 meters in length and can carry 3,000 passengers.  [top]

E-Wing
The FreiTek E-Wing starfighter was introduced during Grand Admiral Thrawn's campaign against the New Republic. A year later, when the revived Emperor made his bid for power, the ship had become a key element of the New Republic's starfighter forces.
The E-Wing was designed by the former Incom Corporation designers who created the fabulously successful X-Wing starfighter. The E-Wing have their new company, FreiTek, a design that ranked with the best fighters any company was producing. Initial engagements with Imperial fighters convinced the New Republic's pilots that
E-Wing
they had an incredible ship at their disposal. The E-Wing was initially designed with the same mission profile as the older A-Wings: to protect New Republic convoys from Imperial raiding missions.
The ship provides respectable speed, but its greatest asset is firepower. The primary weapons are fire-linked triple laser cannons: once cannon on the end of each wing, with the third cannon directly above the cockpit.
The E-Wing also serves as an excellent medium assault and close-support fighter becuase of its sixteen proton torpedoes. These heavy weapons can severely damage capital ships and reinforced military bases, giving New Republic strategists another option when B-Wings are too slow for a mission.
The E-Wing offers performance that until recently was thought to be possible. FreiTek's engineers incorporated several remarkable advances in flight control and power regulation. The resulting ship is as fast and maneuverable as the TIE Interceptor, and its heavily reinforced hull allows the E-Wing to absorb more damage than the famed X-Wing.
Unfortunately, these advancements have come at a price. The E-Wing's advanced computer systems have proved overwhelming for R2 astromech droids. The New Republic has had to switch over to the new Industrial Automaton R7 astromechs, which were designed specifically to handle the more advanced systems and hyperdrive interfaces aboard the E-Wing.
The E-Wing has a reliable fixed wing design. While some designers consider movable wings essential to top combat performance, FreiTek's designers produced a ship that is superior to any movable-wing design. The E-Wing is easy to repair between missions; modular parts, from laser cannon actuators to power couplings, enable New Republic technicians to strip and rebuild an E-Wing in almost half the time it would take to perform a similar operation on an X-Wing.
Initial battles showed that the laser cannons were under-powered because they synthetically spin-coiled Tibanna gas, which broke down quickly, greatly reducing the fire range. Because of the Battle of Calamari, New Republic technicians lacked the time to design a permanent solution, such as refitting the weapons for a more suitable blaster gas. Instead, they rigged the laser cannons to accept three times more the standard power feed, increasing the weapon range to acceptable levels, but also risking a terminal power overload. The modified ships are called E-Wing: Type B.  [top]

Imperial Dropship
Imperial Dropship is a special purpose shuttle and troop transport which is 52.2 meters in length and has one pilot. It carries 160 troops and 80kg of supplies at 1,200 km/h atmospheric speed.  [top]

Imperial Shuttle
Based loosely upon the tri-wing symmetry of Incom's T-16 skyhopper, the standard Imperial
Shuttle
huttle has become a mainstay of Imperial governmental transportation. The vessel's unusually strong defensive shielding made it a favorite of Palpatine's, who usually traveled alone in a luxuriously-appointed private shuttle dedicated to his use only. Lamda-class personnel transport is 20 meters in length and can cary 14 passengers using a crew of four. It is armed with 10 laser cannons.  [top]

Interdictor Cruiser
Since the Rebels ships have a hyperdrive, and are said to be more superior than the Empire. Sienar Fleet Systems, has come
Interdictor Cruiser
up with a new innovation which disables the hyperdrive technology - a gravity well projector. Interdictors place themselves near common jump points that rebels use. When they set up their gravity wells, the gravity wells which 'flood' the area force the pilot to enter realspace where the Empire can set up an ambush for the Rebels. Interdictors are not heavily armed and normally stay outside the battlefield, while the rest of the Imperial forces engage the rebels. It is 600 meters in length and carries a crew of 2,807. It has four gravity well projectors and defends itself with 20 computer targeted laser cannons and two TIE squadrons: one fighter and one interceptor.  [top]

Jaggernaut
Juggernauts are very old ground assault vehicles that were used by the Empire in the days of the Old Republic. The vehicle was built for planetary governments to help build up their defense forces. While they were mostly intended to be sold to planetary governors, many fell into the hands of the Hutts, Jawas, and other groups. The vehicles were fairly successful, and were later used in ground assaults where AT-ATs could not be used.
Although the technology used in the vehicle is very old, the size and build of the vehicle makes it a tough target to destroy; it is 22 meters long and 15 meters high. Five sets of wheels propel the machine to a high speed of 200 kilometers per hour, although the drive system is fairly frail, and must be slowed to 25 kilometers per hour for the vehicle to be able to turn. There are two drive stations in the vehicle, so that it can slow down and reverse its direction without turning around.
The interior of the Juggernaut can hold 50 troops, or various assortments of light speeders, speeder bikes, or small repulsorcraft. This is the same, if not more than the AT-AT can hold, but the AT-AT can handle more irregular terrain and requires far less repair time if damaged.
The Juggernaut requires a crew of two to control, and an additional six if the weapons are to be used. The weaponry includes a turret-mounted laser cannon, port and starboard laser cannons, a turret-mounted blaster, and two concussion grenade launchers (each with a magazine of ten). The blasters and lasers can be used on various attacking targets, and the concussion grenades are usually used to cover for troops exiting the cargo area during battle.  [top]

Landspeeder
While Luke Skywalker was working on his Uncle's moisture farm on Tatooine, he was dreaming of fighting the Imperials. Since his uncle wouldn't let him join the Rebels, Luke found excitement flying his T-16 throught
Landspeeder
Beggar's Canyon and racing his friends in his X-34 Landspeeder.
Luke's uncle Owen didn't find spending extra money on a speeder a great idea, but after Luke asked many times, he finally gave in and purchased Luke the X-34 for 2,400 credits. While Luke used the excuse that he needed a way to get to all the vaparator ranges quickly, he spent a lot of time speeding through the desert and racing his friends at dangerously high speeds.
When Luke purchased the X-34, it had a lot of scratches and dents, but what really mattered to Luke was whether or not it was as fast as the speeders that his friends Deak and Fixer owned, since he planned on doing a lot of racing in it. While it did run well for a used speeder, the Lars family's garage often was covered with engine and and computer parts as Luke was always working on it.
The X-34 consisted of a repulsor-generator and three turbine engines that propelled it at a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour. There was a retractable duraplex windscreen to guard the driver and passenger that could ride in it. The vehicle was controlled with a steering wheel and foot pedals, and the navigations system was limited to a simple scanner that was particularly helpful in tracking down R2-D2 when he fled from the farm.  [top]

Lightsabers
The lightsaber is the special weapon of the Jedi Knight. Inside the handgrip of a lightsaber are power cells and crystals. When activated, a sword-like blade of pure energy appears. A lightsaber blade can cut through almost anything (except another lightsaber blade). During the Civil War the lightsaber was so rare that only Obi-Wan, Vader, and Luke are believed to have used the ancient weapon. Many years of training are required to master the lightsaber. As the final step in his Jedi training, Luke constructed his own lightsaber.  [top]

Millennium Falcon
The Millennium Falcon is a modified YT-1300 Correllian Transport, which was in service during the Destruction of First Death Star, The Battle of Hoth and the Battle of Endor. It has many fake ID
Millennium Falcon
Profiles, so it could be used by smugglers to smuggle illegal cargo through Imperial Space. It often changed owners between Lando and Han Solo in card games, but Han Solo was the most frequent owner. It is heavily modified and now carries two quad-turbolaser batteries, two concussion missile launchers, and two lasers. It is 27 meters in length and has a crew of 1 or 2. It can carry six passengers.  [top]

Missile Boat
This craft was designed by Grand Admiral Thrawn. It is designed to counter the firepower of the TIE Defender flown by the defecting forces. The missile boat is known by the large amount of warheads and warhead launchers mounted. It carries a laser cannon, two advanced concussion missile tubes, and two user defined warhead tubes.  [top]

Mon Calamari Cruiser
It was not until the entry of the Mon Calamari (Mon Cal) into the Rebellion that the Rebel forces gained capital starships
Mon Calamari Cruiser
with which to combat the Star Destroyers of the Empire. The huge battle cruisers of the Mon Cal are modified versions of the deep-space exploration vessels their builders have for decades used to increase their understanding of the universe around them. It is 1200 meters in length and have a crew of 5,402. It is armed with 48 turbolasers with computer assisted targeting, 20 ion cannon batteries, six tractor beam projectors, and a general purpose launcher. It also carries two X-Wing, three Y-Wing, and one A-Wing squadrons.  [top]

Nebulon B Frigate
This escort ship is 800 meters in length and can carry a squadron of snubfighters. It is armed with 75 turbolaser turrets, 30 heavy laser batteries, 18 heavy turbolaser batteries, and a general purpose warhead tube.  [top]

Recon Craft
This is the fastest and most manuverable craft that Jedi Works has created. The maximum speed which was reached during tests on this craft was 667 MGLT . It can outrun advanced concussion missiles quite easily, and it is nearly impossible to hit. But it's lack of shields makes this craft only for the most experienced pilots, because travelling at 667 MGLT is not very easy, especially in the training simulator. Because of it's speed and manuverability this craft is best suited for long range recon missions and it is also an excellent minesweeper because of it's single turbolaser. It is armed with a turbolaser and laser cannon. Without shields it can reach incredible speeds that are at least 7 times faster than anything else in the air.  [top]

R-41 Starchaiser
The R-41 Starchaser is used by pirates to capture convoys through commonly used Navigational Jump points. It is favoured by the pirates because it has the ability to disable any convoy ships, since it has two ion cannons. Its 15 meter body carries one pilot as well as 75kg of cargo at high speeds. In addition to two ion cannons it also has two laser cannons.  [top]

Sail Barge
Sail Barges are huge repulsorlift craft that are used as recreational vehicles by vacations resorts and companies across the galaxy. Jabba the Hutt used his barge for pleasure rides on the desert surface of Tatooine.
Jabba the Hutt never bought himself anything but the best, and his Sail Barge was no exception. The barge was the finest money could buy, with a trichambered repulsorlift engine that thrusted the ship at up to 100 kilometers
Sail Barge
per hour, a fairly quick speed for such a huge repulorcraft. The ship could also be set into hover mode. In this mode, the ship hovered and the ship was moved slowly along by the wind.
His ship also had a heavy blaster and several antipersonnel cannons mounted on the rails, although these were not used often because Jabba used the ships powerful sensors to detect (and then flee from) enemies before they were within firing range. The ship had a passenger deack, just below the main deck, where the criminal spent most of his time. Viewports lined the sides of the ship so that Jabba and his fellow smugglers could have a good view of the terrain. There was also a large kitchen to prepare foods for Jabba, who ate up to nine times a day.
The ship's entire lower deck is dedicated to control rooms and the engines. The controls for the engines and steering vanes are in this area, but they can be controlled from most of the main rooms on the ship. During Han Solo's rescue, Leia aimed the barge's main blaster cannon directly at the main deck, fired it, and then escaped on a Desert Skiff. The blast triggered a chain reaction that eventually destroyed the entire ship.  [top]

Sandcrawler
The Jawas are creatures that live on the planet of Tatooine make a meager living searching for droids, spare parts, minerals, or abondoned machinery. Once they have found something worth picking up, they store it on board their mighty Sandcrawlers and repair it, break it down for spare parts, or sell it. Usually, they only repair broken machinery enough so that it will work long enough to sell it.
The Jawas got hold of the Sandcrawlers when Tatooine was first a mining colony. Settlers used the giant tank-like vehicles to mine the planet, but they soon found out that there was not much to be mined out of Tatooine's surface. When settlers no longer needed the sandcrawlers, Jawas wasted no time in taking them off of their hands. Jawas use some of the rooms in the vehicles as living quarters, and some as repair rooms. The Jawas are not very neat, so most of the crawlers have turned into giant mazes of junk.
The sandcrawlers are 20 meters high, and have eight large treads that pull it along. It uses steam engines for power, and can make it up steep inclines, and through treachorous windstorms that would tip over any other vehicle. New droids or parts are taken on board through the magnetic suction tube on the underside of the ship, or taken up a ramp in the front.
The Jawas are neither strong nor intellegent, and rely on the sandcrawlers for protection from the Sand People and krayt dragons. Although they have never been destroyed, a few blaster shots from a high-power blaster could severely damage the drive system or hull.
Generally, they trade with moisture farmers in small towns, but they are cautious and are always afraid that someone may cheat them or steal from them. On one occasion, a Jawa colony threatened to roll over a town with their powerful vehicle. This has never happened, and probably never will, as this out of character for the Jawas.  [top]

Snowspeeder
The "Snowspeeders" used during the Battle of Hoth were actually highly modified Incom T-47 airspeeders. The Rebel pilots and gunners that manned these machines stood no chance against the AT-ATs that were being
Snowspeeder
used by the Imperials, but they were effective in slowing down the attack long enough for the Rebel base to be evacuated.
The Snowspeeders are designed for high-speed low atmospheric flight and are powered by two repulsorlift drives and a high-power afterburner. Most of the drive system is exposed to enemy fire; this allows for very easy maintainence and also exposes the vital system to damage. The repulsorlift engines turn the snowspeeder along with a pair of mechanical braking flaps which cause drag so that the speeder can turn sharper. The engines can propel it at speeds higher than 1000 kilometers per hour, but it is not a very effective fighter unless it is traveling at 600 kilometers per hour or less. No shield generators are present on the Snowspeeder; it rather relies on its armor, speed, and maneuverability to survive.
The Snowspeeder requires a two-man crew; a pilot and a gunner who controls the tow cable. The harpoon and tow cable are normally used to haul repulsorcraft that have been damaged, or to help move along slower craft. The gunner and pilot sit back to back and the gunner uses a computer system to control the forward twin lasers (even though he faces rearward). If he wishes, the pilot can control the weapons, too.
The Rebels knew that the Empire was likely to use the large AT-ATs when they discovered the base on Hoth; and they also knew that the Snowspeeder's weapons would be almost useless against them. Luke Skywalker and tactician Beryl Chiffonage came up with the idea of attaching the tow cable to the leg of one of the walkers and then wrapping it around several times to trip it. The plan worked well against one of the machines, as Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles proved in battle.
Many different features had to be added to the Snowspeeder in order for it to be reliable in battle. Repulsor-coil heaters were added to keep the engines from freezing, and deicing fixtures were attached near the maneuvering flaps to keep them from freezing shut. Many other speeders like the Snowspeeder around the galaxy are modified for extreme conditions such as desert heat, the extreme humidity in swamp areas, or upper atmosphere conditions. These types of speeders are also used for recon missions, and for hauling cargo.  [top]

Speeder Bike
Speeder Bikes are small, light, repulsorcraft that are used for different jobs around the galaxy. They are very fast and fairly cheap, so the Empire uses them for military purposes. They are very fast, with a top speed of 500 kilometers, and are very good for reconnaissance purposes. While there are several different Speeder Bike
Speeder Bike
models on the market, the Empire mainly uses the Aratech 74-Z bikes. They are very reliable and can go for weeks at a time without needing maintenance. Many civilians use Speeder Bikes as their own personal transports.
At the back of the Speeder Bike there is a small repulsorlift engine. Directly above the engine there is a small cargo compartment, and on top of that is the seat. There is a set of "handlebars" which have the maneuvering controls on them. There is also a set of foot controls which change the speed. The forward section of the bike consists of two outriggers and the maneuvering vanes. There is also a single blaster and a sensor system in the fore of the bike.
Imperial speeders were normally deployed for reconnaissance purposes in divisions called lances. Once they were in the area they had been told to patrol, they broke into two groups. These bikes were very effective for recon missions, and could survey territory much faster than could any other type of speeder. As they were not very heavily armed, pilots of speeder bikes were told to avoid combat whenever possible.
Other versions of the Speeder Bike have been used by the Empire for various purposes; these bikes include the Aratech 64-Y Swift 3 Repulsorlift Sled, and the Mobquet TrailMaker III. The type of bike most normally used was the Aratech 74-Z.  [top]

Star Destroyer, Galactic Class
Another idea from those "think tanks" at Jedi Works, has come up with an upgraded version of an Imperial Star Destroyer - The Galactic Class Star Destroyer. The Galactic Class Star Destroyer contains two hangar bays at the flanks of the 4 kilometre superstructure instead of the bottom , on the normal Imperial Star Destroyer (ISD) counterpart. The GSD has two extra tractor beams for 'grabbing' faster ships for capture such as the Millenium Falcon (a modified correllian transport) or an A-Wing. With it's greater cargo capacity, it has a larger amount of ground forces. This Star Destroyer is 4,000 meters in length and carries a crew of 58,000. It is armed with 100 heavy turbolaser batteries, 100 heavy ion cannons, and 12 tractor beams. It carries 10,000 troops and two wings (12 squadrons) of TIE-Class starfighters for a total of 144.  [top]

Star Destroyer, Imperial Class
These gigantic ships roam the galaxy, spearheading attacks in both deep space and
Star Destroyer
planetary systems. Besides their many built-in turbolasers, a Destroyer can carry a whole wing of starfighters, ground assault vehicles, and a full division of stormtroopers. It is 1,600 meters in length and carries a crew of 37,085. It is armed with 60 heavy turbolaser batteries, 60 heavy ion cannons, and 10 tractor beams. It also carries 9,700 troops and a wing (6 squadrons) of TIE-Class fighters for a total of 72.  [top]

Star Destroyer, Super Class
The Super Star Destroyer, Executor was built
Super Star Destroyer
before the Battle of Hoth. It contained about a quarter of a million (250,000) crew members aboard. The crew members included Imperial officers, stormtroopers, pilots and support crew. The ginormous superstructure is more like a base because it is of much bigger size than a normal Star Destroyer. Later after Rebel victory, several more Super Star Destroyers were found in hands of various warlords. This Star Destroyers has a crew of 280,734. It is armed with 250 turbolaser batteries, 250 heavy turbolaser batteries, 250 concussion missile tubes, and 250 ion cannons as well as 40 tractor beams. It carries 38,000 troops, 12 Squadrons of various TIE-Class ships and gunboats, and two more wings with a total of 144 fighters.  [top]

Star Destroyer, Victory Class
This Star Destroyer Design was favoured by Grand Admiral Thrawn, as his flagship was a VSD itself. The VSD is faster and has more warhead launchers than the Imperial Class Star Destroyer, but has less shield strength. It is also the smalles of Star Destroyers. It is 1,200 meters in length and carries a crew of 27,020. It is armed with 40 heavy turbolaser batteries and 40 heavy ion cannons, as well as 5 tractor beams. It carries, 6,500 troops and 4 squadrons of various TIE-Class starfighters for a total of 48.  [top]

Strike Cruiser
This capital starship is 450 meters in length and carries a crew of 150. It has 20 laser batteries, 30 turbolaser turrets, and a warhead launcher tube. I can also carry a squadron of snubfighters, usually R-41 Starchaisers.  [top]

Swoop
At a glance, a swoop looks a lot like a Speeder Bike, but a Swoop is actually a much different and much simpler vehicle. The construction of the Swoop really isn't much more than an engine, seat, and controls. There is a repulsorlift engine that keeps the Swoop off of the ground, and a powerful ion engine that thrusts it forward at high speeds; mush faster than the Speeder Bike. Swoops are very difficult, especially at high speeds, and the nly safety feature is a seatbelt.
Swoops can travel at 600 kilometers per hour; under good conditions and with a good pilot behind the controls, they can go faster. Some Swoops have modified, more powerful engines, and are made of light alloys and are capable of ridiculously dangerous speeds. Swoops have maneuvering flaps and slats for turns and spins, and these maneuvers are dangerous in the fact that the shifing of the pilot's weight can have a large effect on the turn. Swoops can travel several kilometers above the surface of a planet, but are designed for low-level flight.
Swoops are used by some civilians for personal use, but are used throughout the galaxy for racing, and are often used by criminal gang members.  [top]

Tank Droid
The Arakyd XR-85 Tank Droid was first built and developed before Grand Admiral Thrawn's campaign against the New Republic, but was not used extensively because of its high cost-per-unit.
Grand Admiral Thrawn was known for using existing technology in new ways instead of devising new ships, so the Tank Droid did not get much attention during his rule. However, after Thrawn's death, Arakyd, which was known for its probots, was given a contract to manufacture the Tank Droids in large numbers. The XR-85 played an important role in the retaking of Coruscant. The Tank Droids were used originally for keeping civil unrest under control on Imperial worlds, but it was eventually noticed that this Droid was brutally effective in combat.
The Tank Droid is very large, being thirty meters tall and thrity-two meters long; double the size of an AT-AT. The vehicle is tracked and completely controlled by a droid brain so no pilot is needed. The treads enable it to travel at 70 kilometers, and in various terrain. It is also used in urban areas since it can turn in small areas and its thick armor allows it to plow through anything. It carries a forward-firing heavy particle cannon with an effective range of five kilometers. There are also two turbolasers that fire forward for attacks on secondary targets such as tanks or walkers. For light targets, there are four heavy blasters; two forward-firing and two rear-firing. It also carries a rearward-firing Golon Arms DF 0.9 antipersonnel cannon; all of these weapons are fed by a seperate power generator so it can fire almost incessantly.
The XR-85 is possibly the most successful droid brain-controlled vehicle ever made by the empire; it makes use of an Industrial Automation R7 droid brain with sophisticated intuition programming. Of course, there is no substitute for an organic pilot, losing a droid brain is better than losing a skilled pilot.  [top]

TIE Advanced
During the years between the Battle of Yavin and the death of the Emperor, Sienar Fleet Systems was testing many new TIE prototypes . One of these prototypes, and probably the most successful, was the TIE Advanced x1 Prototype. Darth Vader flew of the Advanced TIEs during the battle of Yavin, but the actual model itself was not used extensively; instead, some of the design models were taken and used for the cheaper and more widely used TIE Interceptor.
The Advanced has a more carefully designed spaceframe that is made with a strong, reinforced durasteel alloy.
TIE Advanced
The wings extend back farther and it has bent wings covered with solar panels that were traditional of the regular TIE Fighters. It carries a SFS 1-S3a solar ionization reactor and dual SFS P-s5.6 twin ion engines which make for a very strong drive system, although this does not cause a significant increase in speed over earlier models, mainly because the spaceframe is considerably heavier, and that extra power is used to charge the shield generators. This means that the ship is far less maneuverable, but this was made up for by the fact that the shields enable the TIE Advanced to take far more damage than the TIE Fighter.
The TIE Advanced has twin heavy blaster cannons in a fixed, forward-firing position. It also carries a shield generator for more protection, although this is extremely unusual for Imperial starfighters. In another exception to strict Imperial policy, the TIE Advanced is equipped with a hyperdrive, which can carry ten sets of jump coordinates (but no navigation computer). Like most other TIEs, the Advanced has no life support system, so the pilot must wear a self-contained life-support suit that carries an internal oxygen supply.
The Empire ordered the construction of only a very few TIE Advanced ships, which were deployed to only the most elite Fighter squadrons. One was also given to Darth Vader, which he used on his personal missions, including the Battle of Yavin. By about the time of the Battle of Hoth, the Advanced ships were being used in a handful of Imperial fleets, including the Star Destroyer Squadron that guarded Darth Vader's Executor. The Empire decided against buying the TIE Advanced in large numbers because of the excessive cost. There were rumors, however, that some Imperial leaders feared that buying a ship with a hyperdrive would make an excuse to cancel orders for larger capital ships.
Imperial designers instead decided to use the TIE Advanced's drive system in the lighter TIE Interceptor, which had no shields and no hyperdrive. The Interceptor was considerably lighter, which made it blindingly fast and far more maneuverable. The Interceptor had a price the Empire could handle, which meant the end of production for the TIE Advanced.  [top]

TIE Bomber
The TIE Bomber was the Empire's prime assault bomber. While slower and less maneuverable than standard starfighters, these bombers provided excellent surgical strike potential against ground and deep space targets.
TIE Bombers have double-pods and elongated solar panels. The starboard pod holds the pilot's compartment (with an ejection seat) as well as flight computers, communications, and life support. The port pod contains the
TIE Bomber
forward and main ordinance bays as well as the targeting and delivery systems. The ship is powered by Sienar Fleet Systems P-s4 twin-ion engines mounted as a single unit between the two pods.
The TIE Bomber's weaponry includes high-yield proton bombs, guided concussion missiles, orbital mines, and free-falling thermal detonators. Depending on the mission configuration, TIE bombers can carry eight concussion missiles or four proton torpedoes in the forward ordnance bay. The main ordnance bay can carry eight more concussion missiles, four additional proton torpedoes, eight proton bombs, six orbital mines, or sixty-four thermal detonators. Two front-firing laser cannons provide protection from enemy ships.
The TIE bomber's targeting computers are mounted below the forward ordnance bay. Bombs are fed through the bombing chute behind the targeting computers, while missiles are launched through the missile port at the front part of the pod.
For space duty, the TIE Bomber was used to deliver heavy ordnance against Rebel capital ships. Traditionally, TIE Fighters first softened the target. Then the TIE bomber, in conjunction with assault gunboats and Skipray blastboats, used its precise targeting computers to disable vital areas such as the shield generators or engines. With the target crippled and unable to protect itself, Imperial boarding parties took control of the vessel and captured Rebel troops for interrogation.
TIE bombers were used to assault space stations and stardocks and to mine planetary orbits. TIE bombers normally had TIE fighters for protective escorts in hotly contested combat zones. The TIE bomber packed a high payload for its small size and could often slip through enemy defenses, which were geared toward detecting capital ships. The bombers are preferable to large capital ships because of their pinpoint targeting--capital ship turbolasers are far less precise.
TIE bombers are also exceptional for ground bombing missions. Their targeting computers are precise enough to level specific buildings while leaving adjacent areas unscathed. They are maneuverable and fast enough for low-altitude bombing runs in cramped situations, such as canyons and cities.
A Star Destroyer typically carried one squadron of twelve TIE bombers. A rare, hollow-hulled version of the TIE bomber could carry small boarding parties when larger ships such as the Gamma-class assault shuttle were not available or appropriate to the task. Before the Emperor's death, the Empire began developing a more advanced bomber prototype, which eventually evolved into the Scimitar assault bomber.  [top]

TIE Crawler
The Century Tank is a cheap mass-produced ground combat vehicle that became popular during the time after the death of Grand Admiral Thrawn; the tank was used extensively during the battle to reclaim the Imperial City of Coruscant. Although the formal name of the tank is the "Century Tank," many pilots are accustomed to calling it the TIE Tank or TIE Crawler because the familiar command pod of the TIE Fighter is used for the cockpit.
The vehicle is very simple with modular components and easy to use weapons and controls. It is a very successful vehicle, with a light drive system and decent armament. Another advantage is that it only requires one crewer to control its movement and its weapons.
The TIE Crawler uses the same command pod as the original TIE Fighters, and is manufactured by Sienar/Santhe Technologies, a sister corporation to the Sienar Fleet Systems, the manufacturers of the TIE Fighter. The use of the TIE cockpit in the Century Tank made it familiar to pilots, and cut the cost of the machine by thousands of credits per unit.
The Crawler consists of two rectangular structures on either side of the command pod, which house the drive system and the tread wheels that propel it at a top speed of 90 kilometers per hour. Although this is not and extremely high speed for a such a small, light craft, the drive system is simple and cheap, and can be very easily repaired by technicians, and sometimes by the pilot. The drive system is capable of handling any terrain, unlike more expensive repulsorcraft. It carries two medium blasters that are forward-firing only, and a light turbolaser that rotates around the bottom of the command pod to fire in any direction. These weapons are powered by a single power generator in the rear of the command pod.
The TIE Crawler can be entered through a hatch on the top, and the pilot is then strapped into a automatically-adjusted grav couch that is slightly modified from the TIE Fighter's. The steering and speed are controlled by foot pedals, and hand controls are used to target and fire weapons. The TIE Tank is covered with fairly light armor, and the treads and drive system are susceptible to take damage easily if they are hit.  [top]

TIE Defender
The TIE Defender was a prototype Imperial fighter that was developed shortly before the Battle of Endor. After initial testing, which was believed to be supervised by top Imperial commanders, the TIE Defender was deployed to a small number of elite TIE wings. Only a few key personnel in Navy command knew that the ship
TIE Defender
was used to defeat Admiral, who had planned to depose Emperor Palpatine.
The vessel represented a radical departure from conventional TIE designs and featured three sets of solar collection panels mounted at equilatertal points around the fighter's cockpit. The TIE Defender, while publicly touted as a "logical advance" for Imperial fighter design, was actually a quiet admission that the Alliance's fighter tactics had been successful. Following specific Navy directives, Sienar Fleet Systems developed a ship that was fast, heavily armed, and equipped with a hyperdrive--in other words, a ship just like the Alliance's fighters. At over 300,000 credits per unit, it was more than five times expensive as a standard TIE fighter.
The TIE Defender's numberous weapons systems allow it to successfully engage multiple enemy fighters, while the hyperdrive permits the ship to operate independently of support carriers, giving the ship flexibility that was unmatched by any other Imperial fighter. Standard doctrine called for the ships to be deployed in flights of four, although Imperial commanders took advantage of the ship's superior design by customizing mission forces on a case-by-case basis.
The TIE defender is one of the fastest production fighters ever used by the Empire: it's nearly 40 percent faster at sublight than the standard TIE fighter. The TIE defender still follows the basic twin ion engine model, but it uses the newer P-sz9.7 engines to generate added speed. Maneuverability has also improved significantly through the addition of triple arrays of maneuvering jets on the triwing assembly, making the ship capable of dives that would put even the TIE interceptor to shame.
The TIE defender features the four laser cannons and two ion cannons, which can be fired independently for multiple targets or fire-linked for a concentrated assault. Rounding out the defender's weaponry are two missile launchers which can be equipped with proton torpedoes and concussion missiles. For defense, the TIE defender has a pair of Novaldex shield generators.
While the TIE defender is one of the most sophisticated fighters ever developed, its cost, combined with the upheaval that followed the death of the Emperor, prevented the fighter from ever coming into widespread use. A few of the ships were used by elite TIE wings, but as a whole the TIE/In and the TIE Interceptor continued to dominate the Imperial fleet even after Grand Admiral Thrawn reunited the Empire's forces against the New Republic.  [top]

TIE Fighter
The small, fast, lightweight TIE Fighter is a very clear symbol of the Empire's control of space. The TIE Fighter is present in almost every Imperial captial ship in the galaxy, and is stationed in spaceports, garrison bases, and space outposts everywhere. The TIE (Twin Ion Engine) Fighter is a short range ship with a very distinguishing pair of solar array panels mounted on the sides of a small, spherical command pod. The panels are very thin, and the command pod relativley small, making the TIE Fighter a difficult target in combat.
The idea behind the TIE Fighter is not that each ship be a great fighter, but since the TIEs are so cheap and easily mass produced, many squadrons of TIE Fighters can overcome an enemy in battle simply because of the
TIE Fighter
large number of fighters present. An Imperial ship can launch enough TIEs to take out some targets before they even have a chance to respond. TIEs are used on escort missions, and mainly to defend cruisers and other capital ships during battle. It is also used in an attack role against Rebel ships, and sometimes against pirate and alien craft.
TIE Fighters are not highly advanced craft, they only carry sublight drives. This means that during battle they are dependent upon a home base such as a ship or a nearby planet. TIEs can only stay in space for a maximum of two days, and this is only under good conditions and with a full fuel load; a TIE that has been in battle for two or three hours has to return to base for refuelling.
Other than firepower, the TIE really only has its speed and maneuverability on its side; it has no shields, no hyperdrive, minimal armor, no life support system for the pilot, and a very small fuel supply. However, without these systems, the TIE Fighter is very light and much faster than most Rebel fighters, and also more maneuverable. There is also much more room for the large power generators, engines, and weapons systems.
There are thousands of new TIEs being manufactured each year, and many pilots are coming out of training. For this reason, some Imperial leaders say that casualties are insignificant, and send as many TIEs as neccessary to win a battle. Some strategists also say that the TIE Fighter is too responsive, and some pilots try to pull off a complex maneuver and end up tearing the ship apart from high stresses on the ship's hull.
The pilot enters the TIE through a top hatch, and is strapped into a high-G shock couch and is protected by crash webbing and a antigravity field produced by a repulsorlift engine. The pilot's feet fit into control yokes which control speed and certain maneuvers, and the hand-control yokes control more precise maneuvers, targeting, navigation, and firing. The main armament of the TIE is a pair of forwars-firing laser cannons which are fire-linked. The power generators for these weapons are located in the undercarriage of the command pod; some of the energy used is drawn from the solar radiation that comes from the solar panels on the solar array wing.
The most common type of TIE Fighter is in the TIE/In, which is a slight improvement over the original T.I.E., and is built by Sienar Fleet Systems.  [top]

TIE Interceptor
The TIE interceptor is the dircect result of advancements developed for Darth Vader's TIE Advanced x1 prototype. It is faster, more maneuverable, and far more lethal than the standard TIE Fighter.
This interceptor uses the standard TIE cockpit, drive pod, and wing braces. The solar collector panels have been elongated and bent, providing extra power while not limiting the pilot's field of vision. The solar panels appear to be dagger shaped, making the interceptor more intimidating and giving it a smaller profile, which makes it harder for opposing gunners to target. The TIE interceptor has more powerful drives than does the TIE
TIE Interceptor
fighter, and is almost as fast as the Alliance's A-Wing; the A-Wing is the fastest fighter in production.
The TIE interceptor uses an advanced type of ion-stream projector that allows pilots to execute tight turns and rolls. Twin-port deflectors can be manipulated individually for fine control and counterbalancing, making the interceptor a superior choice for dogfights. With a skilled pilot behind the controls, the TIE interceptor can literally fly circles around X-Wing starfighters.
For weaponry, the interceptor has four laser cannons, one at the point of each solar panel. Advanced targeting software gives the pilot greater fire accuracy even during complex maneuvers. While the interceptor does not have a pair of laser cannons below the pilot's compartment, the cannon hardpoint is still in place and additional cannons could be mounted there if technicians could find the room for additional power generators.
Like other TIE fighters, the TIE interceptor has little armor plating and no shield generators, and it is easily destroyed by enemy fire. Interceptor pilots rely on the ship's maneuverability and on superiority of numbers to survive engagements with better armed and better armored fighters.
Every effort has been made to save weight on the TIE interceptor. There is no life support system, so pilots must use fully sealed flight suits. The TIE interceptor has no hyperdrives and requires a large capital ship to serve as a base of operations. TIE interceptors are primarily deployed with Star Destroyers and at key star bases, such as the starship yards at Kuat and Fondor. Lesser capital ships, such as Victory-class Star Destroyers and Dreadnaughts, and more remote bases must make do with the older TIE fighters.
The Empire intended the TIE interceptor to eventually replace the TIE fighter, but by the death of the Emperor only about 20 percent of the Imperial fighters in use were interceptors. As Grand Admiral Thrawn initiated his bid for power, he began arming TIE interceptors with shields, knowing the Empire could no longer consider these exceptional ships to be expendable.  [top]

TIE Penetrator
The new TIE Penetrator is one of the fastest line of starfighters ever known, it outruns the Sienar Fleet Systems, TIE Defender. This starfighter will see effective use as a Space superioty fighter, because it outguns and outruns nearly every other starfighters. The disadvantage of it is it's lack of ion cannons and the cost of it isn't all that cheap. It is 6.3 meters in length and has hyperdrive and a tractor beam. It is armed with 6 turbolasers, 4 lasers, and 2 warhead tubes. It is also havily shielded.  [top]

TIE Sniper
Shortly, after the nicknamed "TIE Avenger", which was built by Sienar Fleet Systems was followed by the TIE Sniper which was built by Jedi Works. The TIE Sniper uses the same chassis or framework as the TIE Avenger or TIE Advanced, but has different systems. This starfighter has better manuverability than a normal TIE Advanced, and better shields. But this innovation lacks the speed of a TIE Advanced. Instead of the four lasers, this ship has four front turbolasers which do a considerable damage to a heavily shielded capital ship such as the Rebellion's prized Mon Calamari Cruisers. It is ten meters in length and is armed with two laser cannons and two warhead tubes in addition to the four main turbolasers. It also protected by heavy shields.  [top]

T-Wing Interceptor
The information on this new rebel starfighter is very sketchy, since the only reliance of information of the T-Wing is from encounters by Imperial starfighter pilots. It is ten meters in length, carries one pilot, and is armed with two lasers.  [top]

T-16 Skyhopper
The famous Incom T-16 was what many teenagers across the galaxy wanted to have in their garage. The T-16 was a big success for the Incom corporation, since many young adults own them as pleasure craft. Luke Skywalker owned a T-16, and used it for racing his friends through Beggar's Canyon and for "bullseyeing" womprat burrows with the Skyhopper's stun cannon. Although almost got himself killed more than once while flying the T-16 through Beggar's Canyon, the skills he learned from racing through the narrow canyon were very
T-16 Skyhopper
useful when he later maneuvered his X-Wing through the trench on the first Death Star.
The Skyhopper was designed to be fast, but also easy to handle. It is powered by a single E-16/x ion engine for propulsion, and two DCJ-45 repulsorlift engines for lift. The ship can travel almost 1,200 kilometers per hour, and is capable of flying 300 kilometers in the air. The triwing design, along with a gyro-stabilizer, provides stability during complex maneuvers. The ship is very maneuverable, capable of various twists and turns and vertical climbs.
Obviously, civilians do not mount weapons on their T-16s, but upgrades are available that offer four forward-firing stun cannons, a cheaper package which uses the top two stun cannons as targeting lasers. Some T-16s have heavier armor plating and military-grade weapons for use in police force units. They are also used in some military training facilities.
The cockpit is simple, with room for two; a pilot and a passenger. The pilot's view is split by the vertical stabilizer, but the holographic heads-up display can be used for flight if the pilot finds the view unsatisfactory.  [top]

Vigilance Interceptor
The A-9 Vigilance Interceptor is a short-range fighter that was used by the Empire after the death of Grand Admiral Thrawn. It is a small, simple fighter developed by Kuat Drive Yards, and was manufactured to try to steal some of the contracts that Sienar Fleet systems was getting for their TIE ships. Workers on the Kuat factory world were forced to design and manufacture this ship, but some of the workers revolted and a few
A-9 Vigilance Interceptor
ships were sold to the New Republic, so both sides ended up using the A-9 during the Battle of Calamari.
The A-9 has a lot in common with other Imperial fighters such as TIEs: It is fast, lightweight, has no shields, and no hyperdrive. It is used mainly for quick attacks against slower capital ships and fighters, since it is faster than the TIE Interceptor, and about the same speed as the New Republic's A-Wing.
The A-9's hull contains the cockpit, Carbanti sensor arrays, weapons, and all of the computer systems. The wings are attached to the bottom of the hull, and point downward slightly, with an engine on each end. Then engines run off of individual self-contained power generators. The laser cannons also have their own power generators, and the advanced computer control system can reroute power from any one of these generators to other parts of the ship. This is very helpful in situations where an individual power generator fails.
The main armament of the A-9 is two laser cannons that fire forward and are fire-linked. The cannons are strong for the ship's relatively small size, with more punch than an X-Wing's lasers. The laser system can be modified in many various ways: there are kits to allow the pilot to target each weapon individually, and also one that allows the lasers to rotate downward 90 degrees so that strafing missions can be performed against ground targets.
Despite its speed, maneuverability, and weapons, the A-9 has shown in combat that it is no tougher than the TIE Interceptor and is as limited in utility as the A-Wing fighter. Becuase of all of these complaints, Kuat designers are currently developing a new and improved A-9, which will hopefully be tougher with more armor and better weapons.  [top]

X-Wing
During the time that the Rebel Alliance attacked the first Death Star, the X-Wing was one of the most advanced starfighters in the galaxy. Although now the New Republic has much faster and more heavily armed fighters, the X-Wing has gained a place in history because of it success in many battles. The Rebels may not have been victorious at the battle of Yavin if it weren't for the X-Wing. The Incom Corporation, during its final design stages
X-Wing
of the X-Wing, had sympathies for the Rebels and defected to the Alliance with the help of a small Rebel commando team. The design team brought with it the complete plans for the deadly X-Wing fighter.
The X-Wing obviously gets its name from the double-layered wings which are spread apart to form an "X" during combat. During normal sublight flight or in hyperspace the wings are closed and it appears as if the X-Wing has only two wings; but in a space battle, the wings move split apart; each wielding a Taim & Bak KX9 laser cannon. These laser cannons can be fired one at a time in sequence, two at a time, or all four at a time. The X-Wing is also armed with two Krupx MG7 proton-torpedo launchers that are located in the middle of the spaceframe. Each launcher can hold up to three torpedoes, and can be fired one at a time, or both launchers can fire one torpedo simultaneously. These specialized projectiles scatter proton-energy when they detonate, and allowed Luke Skywalker destroyed the Death Star with a dual shot of these weapons.
The X-Wing is flown by one pilot, and an R2 astromech droid can handle most in-flight operations, can repair electrical systems, compute hyperspace jumps, and sometimes adjusts flight performance. The cockpit is similar to that of the T-16 and other sport airspeeders so that the young recruits that were common in the days of the Alliance could easily make the transition to the X-Wing.
The X-Wing is made a tough reinforced titanium-alloy hull, and houses a powerful Chempat shield generator. Since most pilots that flew the X-Wing were not extremely well-trained, the fighter was designed to be very forgiving and could take minor hits with no change in performance or flightpath.
Like most other Alliance craft, the X-Wing has a hyperdrive (most held a GBk-585 unit) for long travels, and the R2 droid was usually programmed with 10 jump coordinates. Also, since the X-Wing has no navigation computer, the R2 handled the astrogation duties.  [top]

Y-Wing
The Y-Wing is a very old fighter, dating back several years before the X-Wing and even the TIE Fighter. Although they are well known for being very durable, it was shown at the Battle of Yavin how outdated the design is: only one of the ships came back alive. However, it is a good fighter and is still used by many Alliance bases around the galaxy. It is easily recognizable by its narrow central hull and its two engines each set away from the body.
Before the X-Wings were being used by the Alliance, the Y-Wing was very successful and was basically the flagship for the Rebel Alliance. During the Siege of of Ank Ki'Shor, a group of Y-Wings saved thousands of lives by holding off Imperial TIE Bombers, and also played a very important role during the Battle of Vnas and the First Battle of Ord Biniir. There were two squadrons of Y-Wings present at the Battle of Yavin when the First
Y-Wing
Death Star was destroyed, though only a single Y-Wing returned from this battle. There aren't really many Y-Wings in service except in outlying Rebel locations, as they are constantly being replaced by X-Wings and other newer fighters. Y-Wings are most often used for assaults on Imperial convoys that are not protected by TIE Fighters.
While they were being extensively used, they were put to use as a multipurpose vessel, sometimes as a light bomber. They are effective in close quarters combat, and can take plenty of punishment from enemy lasers. Sometimes Y-Wings are stripped down and used for attack runs of convoys, and can also be used for bombing missions. Some are used for diplomatic missions, and the BTL-A4 Y-Wing has very strong sensors for recon missions.
The main components of a Y-Wing are the cockpit, the central spar, and the engine sections. The central cockpit area holds the pilot and the weapons systems. The narrow spar that connects the "wings" to the hull contains the Novaldex power generator, the Koensayr R300-H hyperdrive unit, and the Thiodyne 03-R cryogenic power cells. The wings that run parallel to the cockpit segment contain the Fabritech ANx-y long-range sensor arrays in the front, and the Koensayr R200 ion jet sublight engines take up the rest of the space.
In the BTL-S3, the most widely used Y-Wing configuration, the pilot controls a pair of Taim and Bak IX4 laser cannons and two Arakyd Flex Tube proton torpedo launchers. Both launchers are fed by a magazine of 8 torpedoes. There are also two ArMek SW-4 ion cannons that are most commonly controlled by a weapons officer.
An R2 or R4 astromech unit fits in behind the cockpit and performs a various number of tasks such as fire control, in-flight maintainance, navigation, power rerouting, and hyperspace jumps.  [top]
