Puget Sound Chapter growing, again
Two new people showed up at the September meeting. Jason Marshall was called from back east for a contract programming job. Melvin Frank works as an electrician and is eager to help develop sea-create. Welcome Jason and Melvin.
Call for talent
The Puget Sound Chapter is looking for people with video and animation experiance. The chapter is thinking about producing an introductory video on the FMF and is looking for assistance in this venture. If you have experiance in either of these two fields and would be interested in helping us, contact Jon Wright or come to our next chapter meeting.
Space Age turns 40
On October 4, the Space Age celebrated its fortieth birthday. Too many better writers have exponded on the achievments and the meaning of the four decades since Sputnik was launched. All I can add is that I expect the next forty years to be even more spectacular.
Major fish spill in Puget Sound
Get ready for stories like these on Aquarius.
On Friday, July 18, more than 300,000 fish escaped into Puget Sound
waters when about 55 nets ripped open. Most of the fish, pen reared Atlantic
salmon were less than one pound, though between 5000 and 10,000 averaged
13 pounds, some up to 20 pounds. The company, Norwegian-owned Global
Aqua, was moving the pens to avoid algea bloom, or "red tide." The
company called the spill a major company disaster.
The State Department
of Fish and Wildlife gave permission to people holding fishing licenses to
catch as many fish as they could. "Hundreds of fishermen spent the
weekend scooping up the fish with nets catching them with rods," reported
a local newspaper. Once raised, the fish were to be sold to restaurants
and markets.
