Keyboardist and composer Christopher Boscole (Boss-coal-ee) is a multi-faceted musician whose works range from New Age to contemporary and classic jazz. He has released five albums under his name of mostly original music.
In addition to solo and group performances with his own band, Christopher has worked with some of the finest musicians from the Northwest: Diane Schuur, Phil Sheeran, Nancy Rumbel, Richard Warner, Dean Hodges, Greta Matassa, Jay Thomas, Denney Goodhew, Andrienne Wilson, Doug Barnett, Michael Powers, Michael Bisio, Mark Ivester and Jennifer Lind.
Christopher grew up in a house filled with music. His mother, a piano
teacher, insisted all her children learn piano as well as encouraging
them on other instruments. Christopher practiced piano and violin
diligently, later playing viola in youth symphony. By junior high he was
studying serious classical piano but also picked up the saxophone to
play in the school jazz band. In high school he found more jamming
experiences, and won awards for his jazz soloing abilities on the piano.
This led to performances with the Festival Youth band and a debut to the
public eye at the Bellevue Jazz Festival in 1981. He continued music
studies at the University of Washington and Edmonds Community College,
performing and recording with both the famed UW studio jazz big-band
and the Edmonds Soundsations vocal jazz group. While at the UW he
studied music composition with renowned jazz clarinetist and composer
Bill Smith. Christopher also studied privately with jazz virtuoso Gary
Peacock who motivated his talent as a composer. Christopher began his
work as a professional musician through a wide variety of engagements
and musical styles. It was at this time he met the new age pianist
David Lanz who also encouraged Christopher’s original music.
Frequently performing solo piano, Christopher developed this style of
piano music which he would play in between cover tunes at piano gigs.
After the 1986 release of his first solo piano recording "Shimmer"
Christopher received a scholarship and teaching appointment at the
University of Miami where he earned a Master of Music degree in 1989.
That same year the contemporary jazz album "September Song" was released
and Christopher returned to his native Pacific Northwest to live the
good life, raise his children and write more music. He was soon back in
the studio and in 1992 released the contemporary jazz album "Land of
Music" followed shortly by "O Christmas Tree - Solo Piano." The next
year, inspired by the music of Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Herbie
Hancock, Bill Evans and Wayne Shorter, Christopher took an adventurous
turn and released "Natural Instincts" in the classic jazz style. In
following years Christopher kept himself young as a Mr. Mom to his three
children while enjoying the beautiful and inspirational outdoors of the
Pacific Northwest through hiking, skiing, and sailing. These
experiences with nature provided new inspiration for his composing and
recently Christopher recorded an upcoming release of new solo piano
pieces. Currently he is working on an original project of world
influenced music.
