(8/12) OK, so I haven't updated the page in nearly two months. There's a completely logical explanation to all this, and I'll make it up later. Anyway, you probably know the news by now, blahblah NeoRAGE blahblah MAME .33 blahblahblah Retrocade (this thing's gonna' rock.) And speaking of Retrocade, Mike Cuddy has informed the denizens of EFNet #mame that Arch Rivals is now working in Retrocade, and will hopefully make the release version! and also on the topic of "games we may be seeing soon," Guru-Choc has just obtained a bootleg Karate Champ boardset and is in the process of dumping the ROMs as I write this, which means that we may see this one soon (although with two sticks for each player on the original, this may be a pain to control.) Also, it appears that Pacman Plus has been successfully dumped and decrypted by Clay Cowgill, an arcade hacker working on a multi-pac conversion for the actual machine. This site illustrates the process used in order to achieve this. It is unknown yet whether these ROMs have found their way into the hands of any emu authors yet, or if they will.
Anyway, given the changing circumstances of emulation, it sounds like this site is badly in need of an overhaul about now, and I have some ideas on what I plan to do with it, such as focusing mainly on reviews and doing some new ROMs of the Week before long... Stay tuned, and I've got some lovely infomercials you can watch while you wait.
(6/19) I have just finished another review, and have posted it. This time, I have reviewed Hammerin' Harry, an Irem game dating back to 1990, which has been emulated by the version of RAGE without "Neo" in front of it. As for the rumor mill, there sounds to be some exciting developments we can expect within the next few days. NeoRAGE is up to version 0.00010 at this point, and is beginning to add support for some of the newer NeoGeo games, which is a good thing since Gekko has now dissapeared without a trace. Retrocade is now up to beta 5, and even though I can't use it on 2/3 of my systems due to a video card compatibility issue, on my crummy p133 at work in informal testing (read: when the boss went to lunch) I have found that even with 2 browsers, Exchange, Pirch and several other apps running, Retrocade still manages 350FPS sustained in Pacman. Also on the rumor mill is that Replay+ will be released Monday with netplay support (but only 7 games supported in this version) as well as word of a programmer named Michael Adcock, who claims to have network support partially (non-analog) working in MAME32, and from the posting he made to the Emulator mailing list, I would have to say that his attempt to do this appears to be legit (and in fact, Michael mentions the fact that adding network support is not a difficult task.} As the old overused adage goes, just wait and see.
(6/4) And although the creature does exist, the bugs I have seen so far rival those of the Chernobyl Ant Farm. The beta test stages of Retrocade have begun, but so far there is no indication as to how much longer it will be before we see anything. So far, what does work is impressive (Sustained 135FPS on a 125MHz machine in vectors) but one caveat about Retrocade is that current indications show that even beyond the beta stage, expect Retrocade to be picky about video, as this particular machine will not run it properly at all. Stay tuned for whatever I can bribe the alliance to let me put up here. I have also put up a new review, this time of Pop flamer, most famous as a #mame insult, and for obvious reason. The link is above.
