Angie's CCF Page - Why?

Why?

Why? Why should we even bother? Does it really make a difference in the "big picture" of things?

There are many answers to these questions.

I'd like to give you one answer by introducing you to two very special little girls.

Meena

This is Meena
  • In this photo, Meena is 10 years old.
  • Meena lives in New Delhi, India.
  • Meena has a delightful giggle and a sweet sense of humor.
  • Meena is generous.
  • Meena craves cuddles and affection.
  • Meena lives in poverty.
  • Meena's father is an addict.
  • Meena is a sponsored child.
Maya

This is Maya
  • In this photo, Maya is 10 years old.
  • Maya lives in New Delhi, India.
  • Maya has a delightful giggle and a sly sense of humor.
  • Maya is generous.
  • Maya craves cuddles and affection.
  • Maya lives in poverty.
  • Maya's father is an addict.
  • Maya is not a sponsored child.

Meena

This is Meena when I first met her.
  • I met Meena while we were waiting with her classmates to go on a day trip to visit the Taj Mahal. (My mom's sponsored child, Sangeeta, is on the left.)
  • Meena was 10 years on and in the 4th grade.
Maya

This is Maya when I first met her.
  • I met Maya begging on the street outside the tourist office where the Meena's photo to the left was taken.
  • Maya was 8 years old (I met her on my first trip.) and begging for survival.

Meena

This is Meena the last time I saw her.
  • Meena was at school, a CCF project.
  • Meena had just eaten a nutritious lunch provided by the school.
  • Meena was thrilled to show me her brand new glasses, provided by CCF.
  • The nuns at Meena's school care for her two-year old brother Ashok so that she can go to school while her mother works.
  • The last I heard, Meena was doing well in school and her family had moved to a new home.
Maya

This is Maya the last time I saw her.
  • Maya was at my hotel with me, allowed in the building only because I insisted and promised that we would stay out of public areas.
  • She had just gobbled down a Power Bar that I had in my backpack.
  • Maya does her best to keep an eye on her little brother Sunni.
  • Since this time, Maya was sent to a village to get married (at age 11), but she ran off before the wedding and returned to Delhi.
  • The last I heard, Maya was living on the streets of Delhi, but her family didn't know where.

I guarantee you, in the "big picture" of the lives of darling Meena and Maya, sponsorship (or the lack of it) makes a world of difference.
