Wellington

I began sponsoring Wellington in the Spring of 1990. It has been thrilling to watch him grow from a toddler to a handsome teenager. Wellington LOVES swimming, soccer, and Forro music. He struggles a bit in school, but never gives up. I just love his determination. He's not a terribly good eater, so he struggles with keeping his weight up. I'm trying to encourage him to think of food as fuel to be able to do the things he loves to do. (A good lesson to us all, I think...)

Wellington, to me, is a perfect example of the benefits of a long-term sponsorship. While I have always felt a great deal of love for him and have been proud to watch him grow, I was never sure that he felt quite the same connection. Even so, when his mother died a couple of years ago, I was so glad to be able to be a source of constancy for him. And now, in recent months, he's really begun to open up in his letters, sharing his emotions and opinions, and even giving me advice! Maybe my darling boy just needed 12+ years to open up...
