Sheetal
I began sponsoring Sheetal when Husna's project 'graduated' from CCF. As I mention in my page about Hermelinda, it has been my intention to reduce my sponsorships to two children when the next child 'graduates'. This is simply due to financial reasons. However, since I am adopting a child from India, the thought of not sponsoring a child in India is unacceptable to me.
Life is particularly difficult for a single parent in India. When a spouse dies or deserts the family, all too often it is necessary to place the children in an orphanage. Very often, children are able to retain ties with their families, but they are doomed to grow up in institutions. For this reason, I specifically requested to sponsor a child with a single parent. I want to be the glue that helps keep a family together.
Sheetal lives in the southern city of Mangalore with her mother and younger sister. It is a city on the southern west coast of India. I made a quick visit to the city on my second visit to India. Sheetal's mother is a housekeeper.
