My History with AsmaI first began sponsoring with Christian Children's Fund in 1985 when my church handbell choir decided to sponsor a child. We began sponsoring a little girl from the south of India named Asma, who was nearly four years old. I was very disappointed a year later, when the others in the group faltered in their commitment. Unfortunately, I had gone to college and was unable to remind them of the promise they'd made to "our" little girl.Several years later, I found the old paperwork that I had for Asma. I decided to call the CCF Home Office to see if they knew how she was doing. I was amazed when I was told that not only was she still being served by CCF, but she was available for sponsorship. Unfortunately, I had recently finished college, and was unemployed. So, I was unable to sponsor her myself. As soon as I got a job, I called CCF to see if Asma was still available for sponsorship. I was disappointed to hear that she was on pre-sponsorship, in which her photo had been sent out to a person who was considering sponsorship with CCF. I was told that she had been on pre-sponsorship for a while, and that she would soon become available if the potential sponsor did not agree to sponsor her. At this point I became quite familiar with the wonderful men and women at CCF Sponsor Services. I called every few days to see if Asma was available for sponsorship. Then one day I was told, "Wait a minute, let me go talk to my supervisor." When the gentleman came back on the line, he told me that Asma would be taken off of pre-sponsorship, and she would be immediately assigned to me. I'll bet you can imagine my joy.
