Alaso Mary
Alaso has "graduated" from the CCF program.
In December 2001 I received word that Alaso had graduated from the program. It's hard to "lose" a child, even when they're over 20! News as of May 2005 Fabulous news regarding Alaso!! I never quite understood the reason behind Alaso's 'graduation' from the program. It had been my understanding that I would be able to sponsor Alaso until she completed secondary school, which would be when she was about 25. I had hoped to continue corresponding with Alaso, and learn a bit about what had happened, but chose to not pursue the issue. Things have been really bad in northern Uganda in the past few years, particularly in the area where Alaso lives... political instability, kidnappings, etc. So, while I worried constantly about my beloved Alaso, I felt that I shouldn't burden the CCF Uganda staff with my questions. I now think that was a mistake. Recently, I couldn't take it anymore and sent an email to the CCF National Office in Uganda. Within less than a day, I had a response that included news about Alaso! I am simply amazed by the organization, efficiency, and dedication to each and every individual child and sponsor that is evident by the response from the CCF Uganda National Office. I have since received a letter and a photo from Alaso! I'm not sure about the details about how we will maintain contact, but I am thrilled to know that she is safe and doing well. Alaso is from a village called Madera in Uganda. She was served by the Soroti Family Helper Project. She was born in February 1980. Alaso and her family (an extended family of approximately 20 people) are subsistence farmers. Their home is a grouping of thatched huts which include the main building, the kitchen, and a storage building. I began sponsoring Alaso in 1993. From the very beginning, Alaso has been a wonderful correspondent. She has not only described her daily activities to me, but also has shared traditional stories and details about her culture.
In 1999 I sent extra gift money so that Alaso could purchase a cow. Please visit the page about Alaso's cow for further details.
