A Story from Alaso

The following is a story that Alaso sent to me a while ago after I had sent one to her. You'll notice that there are some grammar and spelling mistakes. Although English is not Alaso's first language, she writes all of her letters in it. I have left the story mostly intact in order to accurately portray what was sent to me. (The only change that I made was to add paragraph breaks to make it easier to read online...)

You'll note that not all of it makes complete sense. But, considering it was translated for me by my sponsored child, I think it is wonderful.

Once upon a time, there lived four friends called leopard, a goat, a dog, sheep. They were invited for a feast at the leopard's Inlaw's home. Mr. Leopard wanted to carry a gift for his Inlaws, so he packed Mr. Goat's kid in a bag before it was time to live. But Mr. Goat realised and got out his kid then replaced it with that of the leopard. When the time came Mr. Leopard ordered Mr. goat to carry the bag and they left.

On their way they met their friends who greeted them. Mr. Leopard hurriedly answered and said, Greet Mr. goat the stupid one who carries what he doesn't know. Mr. goat in turn said, wisdom is not for one but for everybody. Mr. Sheep in turn said, "We shall see the truth when the time to offer comes. Then Mr. dog said, we shall only get tired of running. When they met anybody, they repeated telling them the same words until they arrived home where they were welcomed and the ceremony started.

Then came the time to offer the gifts. Mr. leopard called for the bag and Mr. goat brought it and ran away because he knew he had exchanged what was in the bag. Mr. Dog and Mr. Sheep also left the place saying they were going for a short call and ran away. So the inlaws received the bag happily and wanted to know what was in it but to their surprise when they opened the bag, they found Mr. Leopard's kid and became annoyed with him for bringing them his kid as a gift. So he was called a wizard. On hearing this, Mr. Leopard knew at once that Mr. Goat exchanged what was meant to be the gift and he wanted to kill him be he had already run away. He wanted to beat Mr. Dog and Mr. Sheep for not telling him what had happened to the gift but they too had run away.

That is why the four animals are no longer friends.
